Mall of Asia parking lights

Mall of Asia parking lights

Just got back from Mall of Asia from our family’s semi-weekly rounds there, and I couldn’t help but notice the nifty new sensors they’ve installed throughout their parking buildings.  I’ve been told this feature’s been up and working for the past couple of months, but either because of my chronic oblivousness to my surroundings or their subtle presence, or perhaps a little of both, I’ve missed taking note of this simple yet functional little addition.

They’re basically sensors connected to a light that shines as green when the parking space beneath it is open, and turns red when said slot is occupied.  Sort of like those “Vacant” and “Occupied” signs on the knob found in airplane restrooms, only automatic.  And for cars.  You can just imagine the multitude of red and green lights visible on the ceiling over each parking slot giving the parking building a strangely Christmasy feel.  Speaking of Christmas, the tree’s out in MOA.  A bit smaller than from previous years, but still glittering in gold decors.  46 days to got!

It’s obviously a big help for frequent drivers-turned-parking slot hunters like me, especially in a high traffic mall like MOA.  No more second-guessing if that blind spot in the corner is free or harboring another subcompact.  No more roaming all the aisles to see if there might be a chance that someone could have missed a spot.  See these are the little things that make drivers want to take their families to a particular mall.  The system is simple, effective, and practical.
